The Literary & Philosophical Society was founded in 1793 and the building in the Neo Grecian Style, by John Green, was completed in 1855. There were further alterations by Gibson and Rich in the 19th Century.

A brief guided tour of the building will be followed by a short introduction to some of the books of architectural interest held in the library's collection. We will follow this with a buffet and refreshments in the library's meeting room and Tom Yellowley will present his Christmas Quiz to complete the evening.
